Valve Chamber Cover Replacement and Safety Upgrades

OVERVIEW

This project, addressed a significant safety hazard caused by corrosion in a valve chamber. The scope of work included replacing three corroded covers, enhancing site safety, and upgrading access and ventilation systems to meet water industry standards.

SCOPE OF WORK

Removal and Replacement of Corroded Covers
Safely removed 3 corroded covers and stored them in an unhindered location.

Supplied and installed:

  • Two heavy-duty split D400 covers (900mm x 600mm) for the valve chamber.
  • One custom-manufactured galvanized retractable steel cover (1,470mm x 750mm), designed to meet water industry standards, featuring:
    – A lock-back hinge and safety grille.
    – A recessed aperture with a hasp for padlock compatibility.
    – Two doors, galvanized post-fabrication for durability.

 

Access and Safety Enhancements
Installed Saxon buff slabs to create a durable hardstand for accessing the covers.

Reinstated soil around the newly installed slabs to eliminate trip hazards.

 

Ventilation System Upgrade
Removed the existing wet well vent.

Installed a new coupling and pipe extension, raising the vent to a 500mm finished height for improved visibility and functionality.

Completed the system with a new mushroom vent and secure fixings.

 

Site Cleanup and Completion
Conducted a thorough site cleanup, removing all project waste.

Provided completion photos to the client, demonstrating the finished work and ensuring satisfaction.
