OVERVIEW

This project involved the excavation and construction of a new chamber with a concrete base, block work structure, and associated pipework replacements. Our approach ensured safety, compliance, and quality throughout, while adhering to a detailed plan and tight deadlines.

SCOPE OF WORK

Site Assessment and Excavation

  • CAT scanned the works area to locate and mark services to avoid disruption during excavation.
  • Marked out and cut for a new chamber with the required dimensions
  • Excavated in layers to a depth of 3.2m, ensuring clearance under the existing pipework. Spoil was removed into roll-on roll-off skips.

Temporary Works and Safety

  • Supplied and installed temporary works for safety, including edge protection and an escape davit for personnel safety during the excavation.

Chamber Construction

  • Installed a 150mm concrete base with 1 mesh reinforcement and a 350mm wide sump in the corner of the new chamber.
  • Constructed a 40N blockwork chamber with internal opening dimensions of 2.5m x 2.5m, reinforced with 16mm steel bars tied into the base, with a final height 100mm below ground level.
  • Supplied and installed C30 concrete infill to fill the block recesses up to the finished height.

Additional Installations

  • Installed bolt-down bollards, finished in black with yellow stripes for visibility and safety.
  • Drilled 2 core holes to a depth of 1.8m over existing pipework for replacement.
